Biodiesel in Tanzania

I believe that by shifting to biodiesel production, we can cut on petroleum based fuels imports. Also since biodiesel will be produced by peasants, it will empower them economically.

Biodiesel in Tanzania

I first learnt of biodiesel from a CNN programme back in 2001 (16th June), since then I have come to believe that biodiesel can be a real substitute for petrol-diesel. Tanzania with its agricultural potential and massess of subsistance farming communities can transform the fundamentals of its enegry economy by promoting biodiesel production by peasants. The resources spent in importing fuel could benefit our own populations.

What we need is to facilitate the farming of jatropha plants as the basis of biodiesel production, and slownly build up the plants to manufacture the product.
As the price of petrol based fuels has started to rise again, it brings home this issue of alternative fuels.
